Unique Prototype ‘Accidental Carpet’

Material: cut wool 1950’s blankets, Latex, Jute Cotton
The Blanket carpet is made out of old woolen blankets, cut in strokes, glued together with a Latex backing on Cotton Jute.
Handmade, with blankets what available is at that moment.
Therefore the patron and the colors are always different. Each blanket is unique.
The carpet is designed in 2007/ 2008. It revers to brain structure , a flowing mass, a spot in the living space. In our design we examine the possibilities to use existing material at another way and to transform, so that products with a new meaning will arise..
Accidental carpet is A colourful and soft carpet to oppose cold, anonymous and grey institutional environments.
The first in this series of carpets was designed for epileptic children to cheer up their surroundings.
This is the unique prototype made to develop the later series
Biography: Tejo Remy works as a product, interior and public space designer together with Rene Veenhuizen in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Considering “everything as material,”
Remy and Veenhuizen incorporate existing information, circumstances, or found goods into new situations, often bringing in more social contact or, telling the story of a particular place.
They transform the familiar, yet the feeling remains.
Having collaborated with Droog since its inception with the 1991 classics Chest of drawers, Rag Chair and Milk bottle lamps, Atelier Remy & Veenhuizen has reached international acclaim.
The atelier’s commissioners and exhibitors include Museum of Art and Design in New York, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum in New York, MoMA in New York, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, ACME Gallery in Los Angeles and the Netherlands Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment and part of the collection of the Textiel Museum, Tilburg, Netherlands

Condition:GoodRepaired: As this prototype was used for experimenting with the e.g. the use of chairs and other objects to create a living space there where cuts in the backing, these have been restored with jute patches and latex on the backside. Wear consistent with age and use.
