Wedding Chest in pastel shades, Eastern Europe, anno 1903, with roses and targets on a red background. A fine example of this particular type of box found in present-day eastern Romania, but very similar to painted boxes found in Bulgaria and Turkey. Areas that were part of the Ottoman Empire for a long time. Painted on the front, sides and top. The paint on the top has faded because the boxes were also often used as seating. Decorative handmade metal bands and corners.
