A charming French Antique Painted Tapestry Love Seat, also known as a conversation or Tête-à-Tête seat. The beautifully carved serpentine crest rail, terminating in gilded acanthus leaves, is complemented by elegant sabre-shaped supports. The attractive graduated and fluted spindled back enhances the seat’s graceful shape. The tapestry features a lovely bouquet of roses, and the seating area is finished with smart braiding. The entire piece stands on turned and fluted legs with gilded detailing. The show frame has been painted in lovely shades of French green, accented with gilded elements, and finished with a wax polish. Ideal for a lounge, hall, reception room, bedroom/boudoir, dressing room or a retail or hospitality space.
This Love Seat is well-made, with supportive upholstery in good condition for its age. It appears to have been cleaned, though one seat has some historical marks that, in our opinion, do not significantly detract from its overall appeal. The frame shows wear consistent with its age, including various chips and paint losses that contribute to its antique charm.
