A superb early 20th century French double billot de boucher or butcher block, circa 1920s, handcrafted of mixed woods in Paris. Wonderfully constructed with thick, hand carved pieces of wood, the large chopping surface is in great original condition, having a beautiful patina and authentic wear from a century of repetitive cutting and tenderizing of meat in a French boucherie. The large rectangular top comprises two large knife slots and three knife taps that were used by the butcher to knock excess trim and fat off his knife. Rising in the back is an 18.25” tall carved backsplash that features the original hand carved wood steer head mount. Banded with polished steel braces that help to keep the top from splitting, this handsome butcher block sits above two large sloped drawers for storing knives and utensils with two lift doors just below for keeping pots, pans, and other items. Loaded with character, our unique French butcher block will make a fantastic addition to any indoor or outdoor kitchen, restaurant, ranch house, or hotel. Perfect for use as a carving or presentation station, but could also be used as a bar or even converted into a double sink. With a large serving or presentation surface and generous storage space underneath, this unique antique butcher block will be a statement piece wherever it’s used.
