Large Italian giltwood bed canopy, or corona (also known in France as a ciel de lit), circa 1760-1780. Hand carved giltwood with painted detail decoration. Portion of reverse side is unfinished (probably originally set against a wall). Wonderful architectural element that can function as originally intended over a bed or canapé sofa, or instead perhaps wired as a light fixture.
Note: Original/early finish on antique and vintage metal will include some, or all, of the following: patina, scaling, light rust, discoloration, and corrosion. Regional differences in humidity and climate during shipping may cause antique and vintage wood to shrink and/or split along its grain, veneer to loosen and/or peel, and painted finishes and gilt to crack and flake.
