An Impressive, Large Scale Pair of Late 18th Century Italian Giltwood Settees.
These settees are lovely examples of neoclassical Italian design. The head rail is serpentine in shape and these curves continue in more restrained form on the front and side seat rails. The arms are also of similar flowing form whilst the legs are turned and fluted. There are carved details to the head rails and floral paterae on the blocks to the ends of the seat rails. The original gilding has aged very nicely with plenty of character.
Pairs of settees of this age are not frequently encountered, these pieces normally being split up over time. They stand beautifully and have great proportions
