Stunning French, 18th century, Louis XV Bergere Chair aligned with Rococo period. Previously part of a museum collection in Louisville, Kentucky. Collectors or those with a refined taste for fine French antiques would certainly appreciate this work of art. The original gilt work on this chair covers the most amazing, intricate, artisan hand-carved walnut wood frame. The chair’s backside showcases what appears to be three stiles covered in 23 karat gold gilt work as was found after spot testing. The curved top and wings are framed with ornamental carvings that frame a beautiful soft blue velvet dot pattern over a satin fabric.
The wear to this piece is consistent with a chair of this time period. One arm has a small piece missing that reveals the wood underneath as seen in the images provided. There are areas of minimal cracking and small chips from the paint, again, consistent with an 18th century piece.
