Refined painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork attributable to the French painter Louis Jean Desprez (1743-1804), lacking authentication. Pupil in Paris of the architect Jacques François Blondel in 1777 he moved to Rome and collaborated with Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Desprez studies classical antiquity and devotes himself to painting the topical places of the eternal city and its main churches. Our painting depicts the interior of St. Paul’s. Peter’s with the illumination of the cross on Good Thursday and Friday. Painting of notable pictorial quality and full of meticulous details. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting that has undergone restoration with relining and replacement of the frame, overall in excellent state of conservation. Sight size H 36.5 x W 27.5 cm.
