Christian Lacroix has created “Drag in Drag on” for ToolsGalerie. This rug depicts a small dragon, a favourite figure of Christian Lacroix, devouring or being born from a Savonnerie, the name given to traditional velvet rugs made using the Turkish knotted stitch technique.
The dragon is made of silk, with a few strokes of wool, in long pile, while the Savonnerie is made of short wool. The richness and complexity of the carpet comes from the variety of techniques, materials and pile heights.
Produced by Taï Ping
Exhibited at Musée Réatu, Arles, France

“Drag in a dragon in drag dragging on etc “, which roughly translates as “allusion to a dragon in drag dragging on etc “. A carpet disguised as a dragon or a dragon disguised as a carpet, drawn in silk thread with a corner of tradition in the Aubusson manner for memory’s sake. In Arles, it looks like a ‘drac’, in the langue d’Oc it’s the dragon, always beneficial, who lives in the basements of the homes he protects. This debonair character, more of a smoker than a flamer, will have the same duties and powers.
